Celebrating the Bail Bond Agent
As PBUS celebrates the 30th Anniversary of our founding, we continue to find exciting memorabilia from throughout our history. One such moment is from 1988 when the Mayor of the District of Columbia, Marion Barry, Jr proclaimed June 14 – 16, 1988 as Professional Bail Bond Agents Awareness Days.
The Mayor recognized the essential role Bail Agents play in assisting the criminal justice system and law enforcement officers by apprehending criminal defendants. The Mayor also recognized how bail agents help facilitate the operations of our criminal courts in locating defendants who may fail to appear by returning them to the community to stand trial.
The Proclamation was issued to coincide with the PBUS national convention scheduled for those dates in Washington, DC. Today, the tradition continues of bail agents coming together for education, information and networking opportunities. Join PBUS at the 2011 Midyear Meeting at the Don CeSar, July 18 – 20, 2011 in St. Pete Beach, FL.
Today, unfortunately to read, there is no surety bail in Washington, DC only a large and flourishing Pre-Trial Services Release Program. Our thanks to the Mayor who, at the time, was certainly aware of the vital role of the Bail Bond Agent.
